Sunny Deol was lying low in the Bollywood scene for a long time, but now he is back with Apne that stars all the Deol parivaar together. Sunny is excited because papa Dharmendra will be given the Lifetime Achievement Award at an awards’ ceremony soon. "It feels good. He deserved this a long time ago but didn’t get it. I feel so proud that he is getting it on an international platform. He has worked hard all these years and he is being recognised for his achievements finally," says Sunny.
The Deols seem to have an emotional attachment with Apne since they are acting together for the first time. "We wanted to do a film with all three of us but were unable to find a suitable subject for a long time. Finally, Apne came along. It is very special film for all of us, all the more because of my dad. He has a great role in the film. I have tried to get him a good role on many other occasions but things did not work. But now, he is at his best in Apne and I am sure that people will love him in this role," Sunny adds.
So, did he discover any new aspect of family bonding while doing the film? "I don’t have to. We have always been together as a family and have visited the sets even when we were children. We are always there for each other. I have worked with Bobby earlier in my directorial debut film, Dillagi. Also, dad and I have done three films. What else can we discover about each other at this stage?" he replies.
It is believed that Bobby taught Sunny a few dance steps during the song shoot of Apne. Sunny laughs and admits, "I am not very comfortable with dancing and Bobby insisted on teaching me a few steps." He adds, "The critics have always been harsh on me. I hope this film will prove them wrong. I want my work to take my career ahead. I don’t have the energy to talk about it all the time like other actors. I want to do the kind of cinema I like to do and let my work talk for me."
The actor adds about his choice of films, "I am currently concentrating on my inhouse films. I want to do movies that I am sure about, and the roles I am confident will suit me."
